Fondé en 1995 par le Hollandais Joep van Lieshout, l’atelier Van Lieshout fonctionne comme une PME, mais de manière collégiale. Il regroupe une vingtaine de personnes aux compétences complémentaires : architectes, artistes, ouvriers qualifiés dans le travail de matériaux divers, tels que le métal, le bois, le polyester. Leurs productions débordent les frontières entre architecture, design et art contemporain .

Il faut voir sa "womb house" , la maison utérus ::

"S’inspirant directement de la forme de l’organe de reproduction féminin, l’utérus suggère de manière très explicite ce que peut être la sensation de l’état prénatal : chaleur, douceur, auto-suffisance et apesanteur."

The Atelier van Lieshout was founded in 1995 by the Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout. It operates like a smallish company, but on a collegiate basis. It includes some 20 members with complementary skills - architects, artists, and craftsmen specializing in varied materials such as metal, wood, and polyester. Their works go beyond the boundaries separating architecture, design and contemporary art.

"The Womb house is a utility unit that serves as a technical core inside a house. The technical core is a well-known principle invented in the 20th century by avant-garde architects and was used many times by other architects. A technical core is a pre-fabricated unit that contains the essential functions of a building, such as sanitary, kitchen, heating and ventilation. Normally this technical core is an anonymous, square object."
