À propos du sexe des anges de la cathédrale de Montauban

À la suite de la dégradation de deux de ses dessins apposés sur la cathédrale de Montauban,
voilà deux semaines (notre édition du 4 août),
leur auteur, Ernest Pignon-Ernest, nous a fait parvenir la réaction suivante :

"Contrairement à ce qui a été rapporté par la plupart des médias, le dessin que j’ai collé sur la cathédrale de Montauban n’a pas été recouvert de papier mais déchiré : le geste n’est pas le même. L’emplacement du sexe féminin a été meurtri et arraché à l’aide d’un long bâton par une famille de Montauban qui milite par ailleurs contre l’avortement. Le dessin étant situé à une dizaine de mètres de hauteur, on imagine la scène. Au cours de la même semaine, à quelques milliers de kilomètres, un portrait de Mahmoud Darwich, que j’avais collé à Ramallah, a également été lacéré. Là-bas, ce sont des fondamentalistes musulmans, qui exècrent la liberté d’être et de penser du grand poète palestinien, qui sont passés à l’action. Intégristes de tous les pays… Je tiens à préciser que, réalisée dans le cadre de l’exposition « Ingres et les modernes » du musée de Montauban, mon intervention n’était en rien une provocation, les photos en témoignent. Elle s’inscrit dans une suite de travaux qui interrogent le processus d’élaboration des oeuvres d’Ingres en partant fidèlement de ses premières esquisses. On m’a demandé à plusieurs reprises si j’entendais porter plainte contre les auteurs de cette agression. Je n’en ai pas l’intention. En risquant ainsi mes dessins au dehors, en les réalisant sur un papier fragile, leur destruction, intentionnelle ou fortuite, fait en quelque sorte partie du projet. La liberté d’intervenir où je le souhaite est à ce prix. On me permettra seulement de m’interroger sur les fantasmes de ces jeunes gens qu’une représentation aussi naturelle et pure trouble au point de les changer en furieux iconoclastes. Curieuse haine du corps pour les tenants d’une religion fondée sur le dogme de l’incarnation et dont les lieux de culte ne manquent pas de martyrs dénudés."

Freedom to intervene where I wish it is at this price. One will only allow me to wonder about the phantasms of these young people that such a natural and pure representation disturbs at the point to change them into furious iconoclasts.
