terrorist," says Vivienne
Westwood's
new £50 T-shirts, "please don't
arrest me".
Launched to raise money
for human rights group Liberty, the group says the tops
are trying to draw attention to government proposals to
create new terrorism offences and to allow three months'
detention without charge.
"When I was a
schoolgirl my history teacher, Mr Scott, began to take
classes in civic affairs. The first thing he explained to
us was the fundamental rule of law embodied in Habeas
Corpus," says Westwood.
"He spoke with
pride of civilization and democracy. The hatred of
arbitrary arrest by the lettres de cachet of the French
monarchy caused the storming of the Bastille."
Rainer Ganahl made of the training of the
foreign languages an artistic practice. Its work, says it
"more consists in referring to the policy of the
languages, revealing of problems of exclusion and/or
inclusion."

Which is the word, the
association of words or the sentence which you would wish
to leave - as on the tee-shirts for example within the
framework of this conversation in each language that you
practise?
Rainer Ganahl: I do
not have poetic sentences or not poetic to diffuse .But I
often use teach me..., teach me..., lernen Sie mich, tell
me..., and I would like to add a day love me... (laughter),
hate me... (laughter). But the essencial would be
perhaps "teach me".
